Janet Idette Mattheisen

Janet I. Mattheisen, Benson, Minnesota, died on Tuesday evening, April 16, 2019, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 23, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, at the Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ in Benson, and will continue on Wednesday, April 24, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, April 24, at the Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ in Benson.
Janet Idette Mattheisen was born May 21, 1955 in Benson, Minnesota the daughter of Jerome “Jim” and Adeline (Reuss) Birch. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Janet was raised in the Danvers area and graduated from Benson High School in 1973. Following high school, she received training and was employed as a nurse’s aide at Benson and Morris area nursing homes. She later attended Willmar Technical College where she studied bookkeeping.
On November 2, 1972 Janet was united in marriage to Steven Clarence Mattheisen at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Benson, by Pastor Stockman. This union was blessed with over 46 years together and four children: Jennifer, Jacque, Jacob, and Jessica. Since 1984, she and Steve have owned and operated Mattheisen Disposal in Benson. Janet enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and most of all being a loving, caring, and supportive mother and grandmother.
Janet passed away Tuesday evening, April 16, 2019, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota. She attained 63 years, 10 months, and 25 days of age. Janet is survived by her husband, Steven Mattheisen of Benson; her children: Jennifer (Chad) Hinz of Monticello, Jacque (Mike) Christenson of Benson, Jacob (Sharon) Mattheisen of Park City, UT, and Jessica (Ryan) Gress of Brainerd; 11 grandchildren: Courtney Hinz, Carlee Hinz, Caitlin Hinz, Chloe Hinz, Calvin Christenson, Nolan Christenson, Finn Mattheisen, Owen Mattheisen, Clara Mattheisen, Marley Gress, and Myles Gress; siblings: Paulette Neuhaus of Boulder, CO, Jerome “Jerry” (Stephanie) Birch of Anchorage, AK, Alan Birch of Benson, Pamela Birch of Grand Junction, CO, Michael (Kadsanee) Birch of Wasilla, AK, and Curt Birch of Wasilla, AK; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Adeline Birch; Grandparents; nephew, Mitchell Birch; and brother-in-law, Ronald Neuhaus. Blessed be the memory of Janet Mattheisen.
