Judith “Judy” Lynn Holmquist Moritz was born on December 27, 1955 in Warren, MN. She was the fourth of five girls born to Ray and Bette (Kirby) Holmquist. She graduated from Benson High School in 1973 and then went on to graduate from Moorhead State University in 1977.
While at Moorhead State she met John where they had their first date at Mick’s Office. Despite having to spot John a few bucks to cover their drinks, they went on to marry on July 22, 1978 in Benson, MN. They were married for 42 years before she died on Monday, December 7, 2020, at the age of 64.
She is survived by her husband, John; four children – Katy (Graeme) Bloor of Falcon Heights, MN; Becky (Brandon) Dahl of Atlanta, GA; Andrew (Katelyn) Moritz of St. Louis Park, MN; and Christopher (Jackie) Moritz of Rogers, MN; eight grandchildren – Murphy and Miles Bloor, Lucas and Logan Dahl, Ashton and Paige Moritz, Theo and Gwennie Moritz; as well as her sisters, “The Aunts” – Elizabeth (Tom) Lang, Kris (Bob) Pulford, Suzy (Jeff) Kramer, and Lisa (Bret) Job. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Bette Holmquist.
Growing up she loved horses, especially Joe; as well as spending time at Lake Minnewaska with her sisters and the rest of the Holmquist Clan. She played on Benson High School’s first girls basketball team and one of her first adventures was travelling to Japan with Koinonians Choir group.
As resident of Springfield for 39 years, Judy organized blood drives for the American Red Cross, worked retail at Clennon’s Clothing Store and volunteered for years as an EMT for the Springfield Ambulance. She was an avid scorekeeper for the Tigers Track and Baseball teams where the coaches on occasion were known to verify scores with her. Most notably, Judy was the first face you saw at O’Leary and Moritz Law Office where she worked for many years as John’s “boss.”
She was proud of her Swedish heritage and loved all collectables; having never met a collectable she wanted to part with. She loved pondering, watching birds and was known to always have a pet nearby, especially cats. Above all, her biggest joys were travel, chocolate and spending time with grandchildren.
